Liam Joseph: 6 months old!

Liam Joseph, you are now SIX months old! You are constantly changing and you always want to be entertained. You had your first ear infection this month and it really hit you (and me) pretty hard, but you've bounced back and are doing well! Here is what you have been up to this month. (PS - check out Harper's 6 month post here.)
  • You weigh 15.15 pounds (22nd percentile) and are 26.5" tall (44th percentile). (FYI - Harper was 20.13 pounds and 28 1/4" tall and Griffin was 21.12 pounds and 28 5/8" tall).
  • You are about 2 weeks into your 6 month clothes, but you can still fit into some 3 month pants. I'm still loving seeing you in Griffin's old clothes!!!
  • You still like to be carried around, but sitting up has become one of your favorite things. You like looking around and seeing what everyone is doing. You also enjoy getting in the activity center and bouncing around.
  • You love to get your diaper changed! You just smile and coo every time I change you! You actually like to be naked, so clothing changes and bath time are favorites!
  • You now wear size two diapers and they are still fitting just right.
  • You have really started to up your game as far as food! You drink between 6 and 8 ounces in your bottles and you love your food! You love sweet potatoes and any kind of fruit. You are happy to have bites of everything we offer you. You LOVE those puffs and they make you squeal because you always want more!
  • You are awake quite a bit during the day, mainly because you STILL don't like to nap. You smile, smile, smile at us! You like to babble and screech when we talk to you.
  • You have eczema everywhere. It's gotten better in most spots, but your face is the worst. We have tried what seems like every product and are just hoping it clears up. You seem so uncomfortable from it :( You now take Zyrtec once a day and we use Derma Smoothe oil on you. It works wonders for every place, but you face, which is always wet.
  • You are the lightest sleeper, but we have found that white noise is your best friend. Your nap "schedule" is getting a little better: a short 30 minute morning nap an hour after waking. Then, few hours later, you nap about an 1 hour, and then there are some (about 2)  random naps (no longer than 30 minutes) until 8pm when you want to get ready for bed.
  • Your nighttime sleep is still not great. You go to bed around 8 and get up at 6:30, BUT you wake up a few times throughout the night :( You haven't slept through the night yet, but I am hopeful that stage is coming soon ... very soon!
  • You have the cutest laugh! You are ticklish around your collarbone and around your legs. You just love laughing at Griffin and you also think it's hilarious when I smack the couch beside you.
  • You enjoy bouncing in the activity center. You go in there first thing every morning and you bounce and bounce. I'm pretty sure you just like sitting up and seeing what's going on around you.
  • You are a very vocal child ... you are almost always cooing, grunting, snoring, talking, whining, or just making odd noises. I guess you have to be vocal to get a word in around here! This month, you started growling and I like this much better than the scream/screech from last month.
  • You love to suck on your thumb and hand. This is probably why your eczema on your cheek is the worst because your face is always wet!
  • You have started putting everything up to your mouth ... socks, feet, toys. If you reach for something, it goes straight into your slobbery mouth! You have been fascinated by my cell phone this month and I am always trying to hide it from you.
  • You can now roll both ways, but hardly ever do it. You always roll to your belly, but very rarely will you roll back (even though you can). You would rather cry until we roll you over.
  • You can now sit unassisted for a few minutes, but always seem to fall forward because you usually want t grab your feet.
  • Your hair is still blonde and it's pretty fuzzy, but not very long. Your eyes are still a darker blue, and I think they will end up close to the blue/gray of your sister.
  • Your nicknames are Leelee and "Wittle Wiam."
  • You like to be held, but when you are whiny, we just lay you flat on the floor. You kick and kick your little legs and smile!
  • Your big brother loves you! He is really a great brother and he loves to help comfort you, especially by saying, "shh, shh, shh, shh," when you are crying. He is really helpful!!!
  • Your big sister loves you SO MUCH! She is a natural, little mommy and says you are her best friend and runs straight to you in the morning or after nap. Now, that you are at the sitter's, she loves to help and tell Miss Cindy what you want.
  • You are the sweetest thing ... I think you are asleep and I look down and you are smiling at me. I check on you in your pack-and-play and you are laying there smiling at me. I change your diaper and you smile at me!

Liam, I love you so much and it's hard to imagine life before October 11th! I can't wait to see how you grow and change in the next months.

Griffin James: 6.5 years old

Griffin James, you are now SIX AND A HALF years old and I cannot believe it! Sometimes, I look at you and think you're 10 and sometimes, I see your little pudgy 2 year old face! (Check out Griffin's past birthday posts ... 2, 3, 44.5, 5, and 6.)
  • You weigh 51 pounds and you are 3'11". Talk about long and lean!
  • You are doing so well in Kindergarten. Earlier this year, you tested into 1st grade for Reading Comprehension.
  • You make friends SO easily and you don't ever have a problem going up to new kids and playing with them. You walk right up to kids and start playing with them. Names usually come later ... ha!
  • You tell me that your favorite things at school are, "science experiments, playing outside for recess, and gym."
  • You want to be an artist or play sports when you get older ... basketball and football seem to be the favorites.

  • You are a pretty good eater, but you definitely are stubborn when it comes to trying new food. Your favorites are peanut butter and jelly, raviolis, cheeseburgers and french fries, and pasta with alfredo sauce. Your favorite lunch at school is a chicken sandwich and chocolate chip cookies. You will eat most fruit, but strawberries (with sugar) are your favorite.
  • Patience is still something we need to work on, but you have definitely gotten better over the past year. We have had some minor meltdowns over learning to tie your shoes this week.
  • You are a good sleeper. You finally learned the fine art of sleeping in this summer, but that meant you wanted to go to bed later. During school, you go to bed by 8:30pm and get up at 6:30am.
  • You did a week long wrestling camp and Daddy said you did pretty well. You tell us you like to play basketball during gym and recess. Also, you are signed up for year 2 of tee ball. You like playing baseball in the basement (on the hit away) or in the garage.
  • You enjoy playing card games (Uno and Old Maid), Double Shutter, Jenga, your Pokémon guessing game, and trading Pokémon cards with your friends at school.
  • Your favorite colors are red. black, gray, white, and orange and your favorite animals are polar bears, walruses, and alligators.
  • You still let me pick out your clothes, but you definitely like having your say in what you wear. You wear size 6 shorts and will wear size 6 pants for the length (thank goodness for adjustable waists) and you wear size 6/7 shirts! You wear a size 13.5-1.5 shoes.
  • You can be a sweet boy, but you are sure ornery! You really like trying to scare me ... I don't like it! Ha!
  • You tell us your best friends are  Nicholas, Chase, and Ava (from school) and Cooper (your cousin).
  • You have the craziest memory and for some reason, you remember every store you've ever gotten a toy from. If we tell you something, we better be prepared to follow through because you always remember. It's actually amazing!
  • You love being outside! You always ask to go outside and play, ride your bike, or hit balls. I know you are going to have a blast this summer!
  • You get frustrated with us when we ask you too many questions (especially about girls). You have a very set mind and sometimes, it's hard for you to see things another way (like Mommy). You always like to be right!
  • You like singing songs and listening to music. You got an iPod Touch for Christmas and you like to dance around and listen to music.
  • You are doing really well reading some small books. You know about 30 sight words and we work on them, as well as, sentences a lot. You really like reading.

  • You love playing with people, but you also enjoy being alone. Sometimes, when we are at a family member's house, we will go look for you and you just want to "relax and be alone."
  • Your favorite TV shows are Kickin' It, Jessie, Pokémon, and Slug Terra.
  • You have been watching older movies a lot lately and some of your favorites are Transformers, Avengers, Vampire Dog, and Harry Potter. We tape you all kinds of stuff and you will watch most of it. You are into movies than TV series.
  • You like to play ABCMouse, First in Math, PBS, and Nick Jr. games on the computer. You take a tech class at school. You also play some of your games on the iPad like Checkers, Dragons, Angry Birds, and Kick the Dummy.
  • You sleep with 15 pillows in your bed and they have to be arranged in a certain way before you go to sleep. You are definitely particular.
  • You LOVE to build forts with the couch cushions! You take all the cushions and pillows off the couches and build tall contraptions covered with blankets. You are pretty good about cleaning up your messes, so we let you have fun with the forts.

  • You are an awesome helper and you started making some money doing chores for Mommy and Daddy this year. Most of your chores include cleaning up after Harper.
  • You are a little bossy (like Mommy) and sometimes your bossiness gets you into trouble. You think you can tell your sister what to do and usually, she doesn't listen and it frustrates you.
  • You write your whole name (first, middle, and last) on all your school papers now ... you do great with adding numbers together too!
  • You are such a great big brother and you truly love your little siblings. You are Harper play well together most of the time, but tattling can be an issue. Liam just loves you! You can always calm him down when he's upset and you are the best helper to me!
  • I asked you what I should write about you and you said, "I'm a cool kid."

Griffin, you are such a special boy and you have so many people who love you! I feel so blessed every day to be your Mommy!

Way-Back Wednesday: Liam 5 months of change

Liam is growing at lightning speed! Over the past few weeks, he has started babbling with some consonants that sounds like dada and baba, reaching for things, really bouncing in his jumper, sitting up and balancing (with a pillow behind him), and just interacting more with us. I can't believe he's getting so big already!!!

Liam Joseph: 5 months old

(Going back to work has made me a blog slacker ... I still need take pictures and write Griffin's 6.5 year post and I am 3 weeks behind on Our Week posts ... oops! I'm getting there, I promise!)

Liam Joseph, you are now FIVE months old! This has been a long month as you were really fussy for a few weeks and you had your first cold and cough. So, here is what you have been up to this month. (PS - check out Harper's 5 month post here.)

  • You didn't go to the doctor's this month, but I would guess that you weigh about 15 pounds and are 23" tall. You have the chubbiest legs though!
  • You still wear 3-6 month clothes, but I am slowly putting them away and getting ready to start you in 6 month clothes, mostly for length.
  • You still like to be held; it's definitely when you are the most content! You also enjoy getting in the activity center and bouncing around.
  • You love to get your diaper changed! You just smile and coo every time I change you! You actually like to be naked, so clothing changes and bath time are favorites!
  • You now wear size two diapers and have been in this size for a few weeks.
  • You have really started to up your game as far as food! You drink 6 ounces in your bottles and now we've started food. We started with cereal and just kept going to baby food.
It's gotten better in most spots, but your right cheek and your head have it the worst. We have tried what seems like every product and are just hoping it clears up. You seem so uncomfortable from it :(

You have taken a 2-2.5 hour nap during the day a few times, but it's not usual.
  • Your nighttime sleep has been so-so this month. You were doing pretty well for my first few weeks back to work, but last week was AWFUL and you were up every 2-3 hours. However, last night you only woke up ONE time and it was amazing!!!
  • You have the cutest laugh! You are ticklish around your collarbone and around your legs.
  • You love it when we take your legs and make it seem like you are running! You think this is so funny! Griffin loves to make you run and you laugh every time!
  • You are a very vocal child ... you are almost always cooing, grunting, snoring, talking, whining, or just making odd noises. I guess you have to be vocal to get a word in around here!

  • Your nicknames are Peanut and Buster and Mommy calls you "Wittle Wiam."

Way-Back Wednesday: Twins?

If you would have told me a week ago that Harper and I looked much alike, I would have called you a liar. Ha! However, I found this picture of us around the same age (1.5ish) and we look really similar! Our noses are different, which is lucky for her - ha!, but wow, we could be twins! Look, we even both have bows! Ha!

Back to Work, Valentine's Day, A Week of Firsts, and Our Week: February 10-16, 2014

Sorry this post is a mish-mash, but there was just a lot going on!

We had a pretty busy, but good week! There was a lot of Valentine's Day prep going on around our house ... making boxes, writing out cards for friends/classmates, buying little gifts. This was also my last week home from my 4.5 month maternity leave. I head back to work tomorrow and I'm a little anxious about trying to do it all ... plus, I signed up to take an online class to start working on my license renewal. I think I'm crazy! Ha!

It's been a true blessing to take off 4.5 months! I love that I didn't have to rush back after 6 weeks and that I could really enjoy being home for my kids. I appreciate that my husband works so hard to make it possible for me to be home and that my school was open to me taking so much time off. I've had 3 pretty long leaves and they have always let me take what I wanted off.

I've had a great time home with Liam and Harper, but I am ready to get paid again. To me, that and seeing my co-workers again are the only upsides to heading back to work. I know I am leaving my kids in great hands with our sitter since we've been going to her house since Griffin was 4 month old! Oh well, it will be June soon and I'll have 2.5 months off then! Ha!

Top: my sassy girl, Harper baked us a cake at MawMaw and PawPaw's, Griffin got a special valentine from his girlfriend Mymy

Middle: Valentine cuties ... I love them so much

Bottom: Griffin gave Harper some valentines for her box, don't you read sight words while standing on the counters? Ha!
=============================
We don't really do too much for Valentine's Day, but we did get the kids a few little gifts they opened on Thursday night.
Griff got some puzzle books, candy, socks, a Skylanders watch, and a Pokémon tin.
Harper got a shirt, 2 stuffed animals, socks, learning books, candy, and a microphone (see next picture).
You can hook you iPod up to the microphone and sings your songs (aka "Let It Go") through the speaker.
Liam got some baby puffs, baby cereal, spoons, and bowls. Puffs were a huge hit!!!
Here's a close up of the cake Harper made for us!
 ================================
This has been a big week for Liam! Once he hit 4 months, I'm pretty sure he just grew up over night!
He held his bottle by himself a few times ...
He started sitting in the high chair ...
He started playing in the jumper ...
He started eating baby cereal ...
He is getting too big too fast ... now if he would just SLEEP!!! Ha!

Liam Joseph: 4 months old

Liam Joseph, you are now FOUR months old! This has been a long month as you were really fussy for a few weeks and you had your first cold and cough. So, here is what you have been up to this month. (PS - check out Harper's 4 month post here.)

  • You went to the doctor's this morning and you weigh 14.5 pounds (28th%) and are 24.8 inches long (35th%). You are most certainly our little peanut! (For comparison, at 4 months, Griffin weighed 19.3 pounds and was 26.5" long and Harper was 18.12 pounds and 27" long.)
  • You wear now wear 3-6 month clothes, and some are starting to get too short because you are long. I'm trying to get our wear out of the 3-6 month clothes we have because they are so cute! (PS - I LOVE seeing you in your brother's old clothes; it makes me smile.)
  • You like to be held; it's definitely when you are happiest! You have played quite a bit on your activity mat this month and you like to sit in the Bumbo beside Harper and "watch" a cartoon in the morning.
  • You love to get your diaper changed! You just smile and coo every time I change you! You actually like to be naked, so clothing changes and bath time are favorites!
  • You wear size one diapers, and they still fit well.
  • You have really started to up your game as far as food! You drink your bottles pretty fast now and take 4 ounces every few hours, but have taken 6 ounces in a sitting before.
  • You are awake quite a bit during the day, mainly because you don't like to nap. You smile, smile, smile at us! You like to babble and screech when we talk to you.
  • You had your first trip to the ER this month and were diagnosed with croup. You DID NOT like the chest x-ray (neither did Daddy or Mommy), but sat still for the breathing treatment.
  • You are the lightest sleeper (ugh), but your nap "schedule" is getting a little better: a short 30 minute morning nap an hour after waking. Then, few hours later, you nap about an 1 hour, and then there are some (about 2)  random naps (no longer than 30 minutes) until 8pm when you want to get ready for bed. You have taken a 2-2.5 hour nap during the day a few times, but it's not usual.
  • You sleep about 5 hours at night and then whine (with eyes shut), I feed you, and go back to sleep for another 2-3 hours. You are almost always up for the day by 7:30am. Sleep is not your priority ... boo!
  • You no longer take your binky ... but every so often, I see you sucking your thumb.
  • You have sucked blisters on your hands! You almost always have your hands in your mouth and now you have blisters on both hands.
  • You can now roll from back to belly and when you do you start crying because you can't roll back. In the past few days, I have seen you start to throw your head back like you want to roll back around, so it will happen soon.
.
  • Your hair is still blonde and it's pretty fuzzy, but not very long. Your eyes are still a darker blue, and I think they will end up close to the blue/gray of your sister.
  • Your nicknames are Peanut and Buster and Mommy calls you "Wittle Wiam."
  • Your big sister loves you more and more every day. She is a natural, little mommy and says you are her best friend and runs straight to you in the morning or after nap. The two of you share your "Aunt Amy lip." When you are upset, that lower lip sticks out and then the crying comes.
